If the skin stretches, so does the tattoo. Think about it like a drawing on a balloon. The ink gets stretched, so it “thins” and becomes deformed. Same goes the other way. By themselves tattoos fade out if not touched up every decade or so, so if it’s not too much stretch it will usually just need a slightly earlier touch up. If it stretches too much and especially if it deforms it will look truly awful.

Noteworthy: if it stretches and then the person looses weight to go back to then weight when they got the tattoo, not all the skin “destretches” back to the original position. Makes for some funny / awful tattoos.

I was always pretty fit, a few years ago i had an injury that left me bed ridden for almost a year. I actually lost weight since i didnt move or eat much.

Went from 90 to 60kg in a very short span.

Ive since made the weight back up to 93, and really i just had to do small corrections. It wasnt super drastic in my experience.

The tattoo will deform, like it was said already. Which means one should consider the placement, if they think their body might change.

My friend didnt. She got twin swallows on her stomach. Then she got pregnant with twins. Now she has twin whales 😉
