If the animation is done first, do the actors have to remain strictly to script leaving no room for improv and also have to nail their timing?
And if the acting is done first, how do they time it? Do they have to do it blindly, only by imagination?

I watched the voice actor for Aerith in the new Final Fantasy 7 play the game and get to the part her character spoke and she was so emotional and I want to know how her recording process went, did she only see story boards? Did she get to see blocky grayscale characters with basic features? Did she voice a fully rendered scene? I have always loved seeing the VO process and general behind-the-scenes stuff.
