It will vary highly depending on the police agency, but most have a maximum of 24 hours to process your release once bail is made. So you could make bail and if the cops feel like being jerks they can shuffle your paperwork to the bottom of the stack for 23.5 hours. There is very little oversight on this kind of thing unless you have a million news cameras on you the entire time. Most prisoners have to wait their turn and high profile ones skip the line.
