Stuffy noses are caused mostly by inflamed tissues in our nasal passages and sinuses. When you stand up, gravity and inertia cause the blood in our heads to shift slightly lower in our bodies (the same reason why you can feel light headed if you stand up too quickly). This blood pressure drop reduces the inflammation in our noses and sinuses momentarily, until our system returns to equilibrium.
