when you propagate a plant (with a leaf or node) does it restart its life cycle? Or does it keep the age of the original plant?

I would say to an extent that yes, the plant restarts it’s life cycle at times. This is especially evident when it comes to the plant and maturity, but some larger plants like trees tend to have both mature and immature portions of the plant in their usual state. That’s another topic though.
If you were to take a cutting of an apple tree it wouldn’t necessarily end up bearing fruit that very next fall. Whether that plant would have the same “age” though I can’t answer lol
