During the young years of Earth, the planet was bombarded with ice asteroids during a time called “Late Heavy Bombardment” about 3.8 billion years ago (Earth is roughly 4.6 billion years old for reference). It is believed that most of our water comes from these asteroids. Due to the high temperature of the planet during its formation it’s unlikely that there is any water that dates back to that time.
