It generally goes to a collection system, then a treatment plant, where it is refined. Same basic process as if you’d pooped in the yard, just sped up by selecting conditions to force biology to move faster. Solids are seperated from liquids a couple times, liquids are disinfected and turn into river water, while solids get broken down into gasses and fertilizers.
