Rear, Can’t really eli5 but rear, you need grip to put the power down and accelerate/decelerate. You’ll adjust suspension which plays a big part as well as allignment. If you had no grip you’d just spin out.

Drifting for show involves spinning the rear drive wheels with engine power in order to reduce the friction and slide the rear sideways. The ideal tire would be one with a hard durable compound, not one for grip.

A narrower profile tire is easier to slip since it has less contact patch to conform to the road, but also wears faster due to this smaller area for the same weight of axle.
