Who profits from engagement farming on Threads and how?

On Threads, I frequently see open ended questions that seem like insincere attempts to drum up engagement. For example, a user’s list of posts might look like this:

***”What in the world!! Do ya’ll put syrup in the fridge or the pantry?”***

***”What cereal instantly takes you back to childhood?!”***

***”One thing you miss about being a kid – GO!”***

***”Friday!!! What are ya’ll doing this weekend?!”***

***”Do you make your bed in the morning?”***

etc… etc… One inane question after another posted like clockwork every day or two. Occasionally one will succeed and they’ll be a bunch of responses, but a lot of them don’t get any bites.

Why? How does that turn into money for the poster? I’m assuming that they aren’t sincerely interested in talking to anyone about these “topics”, and I’m assuming that somehow this turns into advertising that gives them cash, but what’s the business model?

It’s not like every tenth post is an ad for sunglasses or whatever. If once in a blue moon they hit on a viral question does Meta send them $20? If someone follows the account will it one day start spamming ads? Anyone know how this business works?

The threads themselves don’t have value, but making credible looking accounts do.

Those accounts can be used to peddle products, manipulate opinions, spam for SEO and more.

Or sometimes people just want the karma
