Why and how do dummies/pacifiers work to calm down babies?

Babies have a bunch of reflexes and the mere act of those can feel soothing to the baby. One of them is the sucking reflex that i activated while feeding. Dummies activate the sucking reflex.

There is probably an association involved too: the sucking is associated with the nice feeling of getting food and reducing hunger and the soothing effect of the caregivers that are present in those moments.
