Why and how do ulcers form in our mouths? Are they any ways to heal it fast?

I swear, my brother was prescribed a medication for canker soars. It was a little bottle of ointment, and it was a grainy substance. You would place it at night, by the morning it had healed tremendously. That shit has expired and we still used it to the very end. Maybe it was taken off of the market though, this had to be like 20 years ago.
