Why are banana and cherry the most popular ‘flavors’ of medicine?

Why are those the best flavors to mask medicine? Why not green apple, blue raspberry, or chocolate?

Cherry has a stronger taste than those other flavors so it is better at masking the taste of medicine, and it is cheap and easy to make medicine with cherry in it.

I’ve never had banana medicine. Cherry and grape seem most common where I’ve lived. The flavor is cheap, easy to produce artificially, and easily recognized (therefore making picky patients more likely to take it).

I wouldn’t like a banan flavored medicine, but banana does tend to overpower ever other flavor, so I could see why it would work.
