I’m not just talking about pickup trucks that have gotten huge, but rather cars in general. Take a look at the 5th generation Honda Civic hatchback and compare it to the newest Honda Civic Hatchback model. Not only did the car gain approximately 1,000lbs/453Kg, but its length, height, and space drastically changed. Sure it’s a 30 year difference but even other car models from the early 2010s compared to their same models today are way bigger and heavier in just under a decade Why is this?

Every car ever made has this size increase over the years. Compare a 64 mustang to a 69. Compare a first generation subaru forester to a 4th or 5th. The first gen was smaller than the current crosstalk.
People want them, “just a little bigger.” But it’s never enough until it ends up being too much all of a sudden.

You’ve never ridden in the back of a 78 green steel Chevy station wagon. Front and back seat alone were sofas. Then add a huge back/play area. The thing was solid steel, heavy and got maybe 15 miles to the gallon. Today’s cars are more SUV shaped, with safety built in first, so their also lighter. But there were huge cars in the 50s-80s that dwarfed even a modern Tahoe.
