I get it in the context of a very outdated one, but a driver from a month ago shouldn’t be leading to crashes, so why update?
It ends up feeling like the driver works fine till a new one comes out and it starts failing.

I’d like to note that this is an incorrect assumption.
It’s only very few drivers that need (or even _have_) frequent updates. When is the last time you updated the drivers for a keyboard, mouse, sound card, webcam, ethernet card, WiFi adapter, USB thumbdrives, etc?
Now, GPU drivers have very frequent updates since they get a _lot_ of bug fixes and enhancements, especially ones for specific new game releases. But the _vast_ majority of drivers hardly ever need updates.
