I know jewellery bedsides wedding bands is prohibited by health regulations, but numerous professional chefs, celebrity chefs and YouTube cooks wear wedding bands when cooking. What makes wedding bands acceptable? Wouldn’t they trap bacteria and dirt as much as other jewellery?

It just holds more significance than other rings. Plus I know quite a few people who just straight up can’t take their wedding ring off lmao it’s been on there too long and their fingers got fatter

Wedding bands are considered acceptable because they don’t have nooks and crannies in which bacteria can hide, which makes them relatively easy to sanitize compared to more complicated jewelry. That said, I still wouldn’t wear one if I were working in a professional kitchen, because they make it difficult to wash your hands properly.

Wedding bands are usually smooth, gemless rings. They don’t have groves and nooks to trap stuff. They don’t have anything to fall out into food. They don’t have any jutting points to get caught on stuff.

But if you mean something like an engagement ring with a stone, that actually shouldn’t be allowed except in specific roles. I had a flat set engagement ring and wasn’t allowed to wear it unless I wore gloves the entire time I was on shift.
