Your standard hex bolt is overall one of the best types. Can take a lot of torque and won’t significantly change shape if they happen to corrode, plus they don’t hold water the way a torx can. Using torx on exterior bolts is a great way to corrode them and make them a bitch to remove. Downsides are that the socket needs room to go all the way around the bolt, so if there’s not much room, they might not work. Another downside is that they need to stick out somewhat for the socket to have space to grip. If you need a flatter headed bolt, something with a sunk in head like torx can do the job.
