Why are engines assembled with so many different bits?

I’d really like to know why I need so many different types. Torx bits, 11 mm, 3/4 …..

Why can’t they be all the same?

This is optimised for the part. It is more efficient to use lots of different tools than it is to change the design of parts. Mind you, they could make it less complicated, as was done in some older cars.
