So fridges use this thing called a heat sink to operate. In very basic terms, and i took thermodynamics like 4 years ago so im rusty, it uses refrigerant to basically suck out the heat from inside and trys to dump it outside. If you ever feel the back of the fridge its actually warm on the back of it. Im guessing they also want a way of regulating the cold temp on the inside which would require it to be well insulated and you wouldnt want it to go to cold or else it would freeze everything.
