Why are home trash compactors no longer popular?

Still have a kenmore one in my house it’s 23 years old. Works great. Has a built in deodorizer. Overnight it automatically does an ultra compact cycle where it basically keeps the trash smashed for hours until you open it in the morning. Bags are not expensive. One box at Costco has lasted 2 years and it’s still got more. Con’s I guess would be it is if you use it to full potential bags can get heavy. I wouldn’t spend the money on one if my house didn’t have one already but I’ll say it has been pretty sweet so far.
More trouble than they’re worth imo. Had one back in my teen years and it was just kinda dumb. Didn’t miss it at all when we moved and didn’t have one anymore.
