Masks are essentially vector blockers. They don’t stop water droplets and vapour completely, but they do help lower the distance or radius these droplets can travel. Masks are just one tool used and must be combined with social distancing and hand washing to be the most effective. Over time the mask will become more damp and touching it will spread moisture to your hands and face. Fresh masks lower this risk.
Again it should be stressed, masks are not the single answer. They are a single tool used in an arsenal of many. Cleanliness is another tool and old masks are less “clean”.
