I doubt there is much research on the effects of microplastics specifically, but having foreign matter in the blood stream can lead to a blockage, known as an embolism, witch is normally either fatal or could lead to a stroke if located in the brain.

It’s only been early this year that researchers have found microplastics in the human bloodstream, and it’s going to take a lot more time and research to know the full consequences of plastic pollution running rampant in our bodies and elsewhere. For now, their presence in the bloodstream is just another indicator of how far-reaching plastic pollution has grown. How our bodies handle it will be interesting (and a little scary) to see.

They’re very unuseful, they just go around doing nothing and being all over and its generally bad to have a bunch of useless stuff in your body clogging things up and making things possibly slower. I know there’s stuff I’ve read on microplastics causing problems on the reproduction system/fetus formation.

We don’t know for sure that they are. Technically it could turn out that they protect us from cancer. However, in general introducing foreign elements into the body is a risk. Or they could be completely negligible.

The main problem is that they are becoming so prevalent that we can’t really afford to wait and see how dangerous (or not) they are even though we are not yet seeing clear, widespread damage. If they are bad, we will already be screwed by the time we find out for sure.

That is why we want to limit it as much as possible.
