Why are most species not intersex?

Wouldn’t it allow for greater genetic proliferation if every member of a race could mate with each other?

Nobody is really sure. They’ve done studies though, and having different genders makes a huge difference for survival. Theories range from gender roles and their associated biological pressures being a positive selective force to disposibility.
