Seriously? Because the book has been opened most in that area.

The binding on the back of the pages breaks down more in that area! This causes it to be easier to go to that page instead of the one next to it. Kind of like folding a page in half and unfolding it would make it easier to fold again in that same spot!

When you open a book to a specific page, you are essentially folding the book in half so that that page is in the front. The more times you do this, the easier it is to open the book to that page because the fold is already there.
