Why are pages you access the most in a book, much easier to get to when reopening the book?

The binding on the back of the pages breaks down more in that area! This causes it to be easier to go to that page instead of the one next to it. Kind of like folding a page in half and unfolding it would make it easier to fold again in that same spot!
