It’s and evolutionary thing, when our species was still living in the wild, there could have been a tiger (monster) in the dark that wanted to eat us, so the humans that didn’t risked it lived.

We know we are safe in our homes, but what if a tiger (monster) is waiting in that dark corner and when I go to sleep/there it’ll eat me?

It’s think this is individual opinion rather than a blanket statement. I’m perfectly fine in the dark. I even sleep with my feet hanging off the end of the bed!

Because even though they rationally know nothing is there, their brain tells them otherwise.
