This depends on the culture in question. Better to check r/answers.

As with much of culture, the details are pretty arbitrary. They are all forms of signaling that you do (or don’t) belong to the in group.

By everyone? Body decorations have different rules in different cultures. Even in wealthy western countries some parents pierce the ears of their young children, and this appears “trashy” to others.

Pierced ears have social utility. People may be dragged or otherwise spatially adjusted by ear piercings. Other piercings fail to provide sufficient grip for successful spatial adjustment. Other piercings only continue to further service the delusion that anything other than a fine robust skeletal system is worthy of admiration and deep referential respect.

Depends where you live. Nose rings in India are as common as earrings in a lot of the western world.

That’s just where our society is at right now. Someday more will be more usual and someday less will be more usual. Fashion trends go in cycles as each new generation tries to define themselves and their place in the world. It’s natural to rebel against societal norms and fashion is an easy and safe way to be different.

I think that attitude is gradually changing however some people will always be against piercings, wherever they may be
