why are sheets still cold even if you’ve been under think blankets that are supposed to trap in heat?

I’ve always been confused about this because I sleep under many thick soft blankets yet my sheets always seem to be cold when they should warm up from being trapped in my body heat.

Blankets slow, but do not completely stop, the process of heat loss.

When you are in bed, the heat your body generates replaces any heat lost through the blankets.

When you leave the bed, the sheets still retain the heat from your body. However, since you have left the bed, the sheets will also slowly lose heat despite being covered by thick blankets.
