Why are some animals capable of living independently from birth, but others have to nurtured by their mothers?

Turtles.

They don’t need their mother once they are hatched. They need to survive on their own, once they are hatched on the hole in the sand, they need to swim right in to the ocean. They don’t meet their mother.

They are born to survive on their own. Their survival rate probability is very low, given they need to rush on the water or else be eaten by a bird.

In the case of humans it’s about brain development..a fully grown adult brain, along with the skull needed to protect it, would be too large to birth.

So humans do a lot of growing with an undeveloped brain, outside the womb. And as such need constant care and attention.

I suspect this is a factor in other animals too.
