Fireworks represent a sudden loud noise, in general animals have good hearing to either hunt other animals or to avoid being hunted. A sudden noise potentially represents the threat of being attacked by surprise, which not surprisingly scares some animals. Other animals usually pets also cue their reactions from humans and if the human remains calm round the loud noises the pet relaxes and ignores the noise.
