Larger testicles can produce more sperm. This is useful for animals that mate with many different females in short order, increasing their chances of reproduction. A goat for example which would compete with other male goats in order to mate with a group of females would tend to have large testicles to support that act, while a social ape oriented towards monogamous relationships would tend to have smaller testicles.
