Why are sounds more louder at night compared to the day.

I’ve always noticed whenever I sleep during the day and wear my headphones that I suddenly need to lower all the volumes of every media I consume. And that I can hear more sound resonating from multiple sources that I wouldn’t normally hear during the day.

For starters, cold still air carries sound better than warm air. Heat rising from surfaces due to the sun’s heat means there’s always a varying amount of updraft during the day. Once things cool down at night there’s less turbulence.

Sound also creates its own turbulence. Consider “sound particles” as someone trying to get through a mosh pit to the bathrooms.
The more sounds and craziness going on, the harder it is to reach you.

When there’s less sounds, less movement, and more space, it’s easier for sound to get to you in a way your brain can process.
