Why are the highest performance racing (F1) tires soft, but high performance summer tires for consumer cars are hard?

To add to all the answers here. It’s artificial, F1 could make tires that last a whole race. They specifically tell the manufacturer not to, they want tires to degrade because it forces teams to make pitstops and strategize more. It makes the races more exciting.
