Why are the highest performance racing (F1) tires soft, but high performance summer tires for consumer cars are hard?

Basically f1 race tires do not need to be as Hard as us commercial users. They “melt” and grip better for their use. If you look at their rain tires when they use them those are closer to regular used ones because when the track is wet, “melting” the tire does nothing grip wise on a wet track. So at that point they need the groves like us for traction.

F1 teams pay attention to track temperature to evaluate how hard of a tire to use because “melting” the tire too quick would be bad also. So the “strategy” used in F1 is based around when to pit based on tire wear and what softness to use to last the lap counts. F1 teams are required at least 1 pit. I don’t think 2 are required on any track but i could be wrong. So it’s all about planning and nursing the longevity of the rubber.
