Why are the inside of our mouths so much more heat tolerant than other areas of skin?

For example, if I touch a hot plate my hands feel really hot and I can’t hold it for much longer, but then when I eat the food in the plate, i can still feel the heat but it doesn’t hurt the skin as much and I can eat the food just fine?

Soft palette plus moisture.

The skin around your mouth is a different type and heals quickly.
