Why are the signals for hunger and thirst in our bodies so difficult to distinguish?

I’ve never found them difficult to distinguish. Is that unusual? I feel hunger in my stomach, and thirst in the back of my throat. Throat irritation due to a cold can sometimes fee like thirst to me.
