When a volcano erupts, it sends out a lot of ash and dust into the air. These tiny particles rub against each other and create something called static electricity. It’s like when you rub your feet on the carpet and then touch something metal, you might feel a little shock. That’s because of static electricity. When there’s a lot of static electricity in the ash cloud, it can create lightning!
when that steam and smoke rise up, they can rub against each other, kind of like when you rub your socks on the carpet and get a little zap. This rubbing can create tiny bits of electricity. These bits of electricity can make lightning inside the volcanic cloud.
