Why are watershoes not allowed on waterslides?

Because the last thing you want while going down a water slide is grip. You slow down and someone plows into the back of you.
It’s unsafe on anything but the shortest, slowest slides because the added friction will cause a variety of problems.
As a lifeguard, I would rather not deal with the sort of incident which might come from too much grip and friction on an open slide with a few turns high up.
In addition to what others have said slides generally don’t let you on with anything that could reasonably come off inside the slide. Hats, shoes, jewellery, etc.
