Our tongues are incredibly sensitive and full of nerves. This makes them excellent at figuring out what is in the mouth, but we’re not really tasting these sore spots. It’s more about touch.

The tongue’s ability to identify these spots can often make us hyper aware of irregularities in our mouths, like a sore spot, chipped tooth, etc. We often move our tongues repeatedly over the area because our brain is trying to figure out and assess the change
