Online banking deposit makes cashing forged checks a lot easier.
The trick tho, is for the forger to use an account where they’ve already gotten an atm card, also applied for online and send in the fake deposit, not overdraw the Mark’s account and use the atm to take the cash. (this is all true)
It’s actually just easier to forge credit card numbers. If Emily the Criminal can be believed
Using checks as my main form of currency seems like a very long time ago. I still write them for my house cleaning person and my handyman. I use cash at only one dining establishment that doesn’t take plastic any longer. I don’t go there often because of this. I noticed in my personal business that around 2015 or so, we were only getting a few. By 2018, it might have only been 1 a week. Checks went out of fashion at the same time as people switching to only having a cell phone without a landline. Did that myself in 2018.
Does anybody use a check? Like the paper thing from the middle ages?
I got one from my grandma for christmas in the mid 90s. Was so difficult to use that, had to travel out of town to find a bank to turn it into money, but lost most to fees, and with the buss fare i ended up loosing money.
Is it not possible to use a more modern solution. Many countries have a banking system that can be used online and its much easier for everyone
Do Americans still use cheques (checks)? I can’t think of the last time I wrote or received one. Probably a decade ago.
I remember having to write out a cheque for my plumber. Now when he’s done, I transfer the money using the banking app on my phone and then he checks his phone to confirm it’s received. No cheques, no cash.
Your information isn’t as sensitive as most believe. The internet has people freaked out.
Every place you ever filled out a job application has your address, DOB and SS number. Gasp!
You’re really not as important as you imagine and the only information about you that anyone gives a shit to pay for is to know when you’re ready to buy a new car or have a baby.
In my country, post dated checks are good as guarantees for payments. It is more secure because if it bounces, the payee will have fines and worst could be prosecuted. Everyone can easily run away from their responsibility of paying, but if banks are involved, it will be harder to not pay because of accumulating fines and bad bank record.
