Good answer, thank you. I used to have a pretty ferocious appetite, but as I’ve gotten older I don’t really eat a lot. When I get stoned it’s like my teenage appetite comes back.

Humans have a chemical in their body called hormones. These hormones govern things like hunger, mood, memory, and lots of other important stuff. Sometimes when someone has a problem eating, it may mean a hormone problem tied to hunger. Hormones are accepted in your brain via hormone receptors. Hormone receptors function like a children’s toy, square peg goes in square hole, circle in circle hole, triangle in triangle hole.

Weed is clay that can be shoved in any hormone receptor and can therefore balance your hunger to normal levels, which if you had a problem eating before it will set you closer to baseline and you’ll feel hungry.

There is a chemical in your brain that helps stimulate your hunger, and THC looks a lot like that chemical

Your body has cannabinoid receptors in lots of different regions of the body because it produces cannabinoids aswell, hunger is one of the mechanisms regulatrd by your bodys cannabinoids and their receptors. Your brain has an ancient mechanism to eat as much as you can, if you found a great food source. The optimal ratio per 100g is 35g fat to 50g carbohydrates (check your chips bags fellow stoners they are doing us dirty), if you eat sth like that, your brain shuts off your feeling of fullness. That’s why you can eat a whole bag of chips after lunch even if you didn’t smoke weed.
Since the cannabinoids from the weed you smoke interact with the receptors all over your body, it can happen that you trigger this mechanism and start shoving everything in your face like a literal caveman.

For what it’s worth, not all THC is created equal as far as munchies. Stoners have long said that THCV is an appetite suppressant, meaning you are less hungry when enjoying strains high in it.

I see things different.

I think when people smoke, it lowers their ability to manage their own system and functions. One of those functions is eating. There is also ambition, memory retention etc. You can focus on the hunger, like anything else, and it will go away -reminding you that the *real you* is still in control.

THC, the weed chemical, is almost identical to the chemical your brain makes to tell you you’re hungry. Its kinda like how there are only like 9 different key patterns for a given lock model so if you just keep trying your house key in other locks of the same brand and type you’ll eventually open some dude’s door. Only with neuro-chemicals.

It’s not that it makes you hungry, but rather interferes with the brains process of telling you that you’re not. Leptin is a hormone that your brain secretes when you eat and it attaches to receptors in your body. When the connection is made you feel full. Cannabinoids can also attach to these same receptors and when they do they block the leptin from delivering their message of fullness
