why aren’t tranquilizer guns used on humans during stand-offs

Like, instead of tasers, live ammunition, etc, why isn’t there some sort of investment in making tranquilizer guns to incapacitate criminals?

Tranquilizers take time to work – so if the person had a gun, they’d have a few minutes of shooting at stuff before they got knocked out. Part of that time, perhaps woozy an unaware that they are shooting or what they are shooting at.

Rather unfortunately, any tranquilizer dose that acts so quick is also prone to stopping a person’s heart and killing them. If you intend to kill them, why not just cut out the part where they shoot indiscriminately and shoot them first?

It’s also really hard to guess the dose needed if you don’t have an accurate weight for the target. Some people also have allergies and other issues that complicate the dosing and non-lethal administration of drug. You have a pretty good chance of either not knocking the person out or just plain killing them.
