Put simply, it usually has to do with having a bigger boddy. 1l of an alcoholic bevarage is smaller relative to a 85kg guy than compared to a 55kg girl.
There are probably other factors at play, too.
It’s size and body composition. I weigh fifty pounds more than my husband. I can drink more than him without getting drunk.
Another factor is that men (especially younger men) generally have larger livers than women, even after accounting for differences in body weight. This means they can clear alcohol from their systems more quickly, so to get drunk, they have to either consume more, or consume it more quickly.
People usually link the larger male liver to the larger male muscle mass: you need a bigger liver to metabolize the waste products of those bigger muscles.
(This is just a rule of thumb of course, you’ll find plenty of large-livered woman and plenty of small-livered men)
more size and muscle to absorb more alcohol. consider it this way. a big sponge soaks up more liquid than a small sponge.
