Why can we never forget our most traumatic experiences, no matter how hard we try?

We humans generally remember negative feelings and events MUCH more. A parent who lost his/her child can feel the very same feeling of sorrow even after years, but they cannot feel the same joy of the day their child was born.

Apparently, it has evolutionary value. If you remember traumatic events more, you will do whatever possible to avoid them in the future. Imagine hundreds of thousands of years ago, an ancestor of ours having a traumatic experience with a predator (Like a Lion). If they remember the feeling well, they have a higher chance of avoiding the trauma in the future.
