Why can’t antibiotic syrup (or any other strong medicine syrup) taste at least good?

I’ve always hated the taste, texture and smell of them, but never understood why they were so bad.

Lots of chemicals and medicines have things added to them intentionally to make them taste bad — to prevent people from accidentally ingesting too much without realizing it’s harmful, etc.
