One of the reasons (and there are more than a few) is that the content of breast milk changes with the condition of the baby, whereas formula is exactly the same, every time.
The mothers body is constantly doing science to know what the baby needs, you’d need to have 24/7 testing and monitoring to continuously change the formula.
At that stage I feel even poor quality off the shelf formula would give your child a better start in life than the subconscious memories of being a science experiment.
Formula that costs $100 a can might be more like breast milk, but nobody would buy it. It’s a balancing problem, they are trying hard to make affordable formula that’s good enough – not trying to make the best possible formula.
Breast milk contains antibodies that help improve the baby’s immune system. In particular, the antibodies needed to fight what is common in the area will be in the breast milk thus improving the child’s resistance to common infections in the area.
Formula does not have that.
