Why can’t domestic sheep naturally shed their winter coats?

As others have said part of it is selective breeding but the other half is they’re living outside of their natural conditions.

Sheep naturally live in rocky areas such as rocky highlands and mountains.

Without their stoney habitat they need human intervention in regards to their coat and hooves. We have to trim their hooves when they live on soft earth as their not being worn down by friction. An active sheep in those conditions should have their hooves trimmed every 6 to 10 weeks. Their coats aren’t as easily shed as they’re no longer rubbing against large rocks and rockfaces which will remove wool instead it clumps.
