It depends on what caused the paralysis. If it was caused by brain damage, then the reason it can’t be cured is that the brain is very complicated, and we still don’t fully understand how it works. As brain research continues and our understanding increases, it is entirely possible that a way to fix the damage will be discovered.
If the paralysis is caused by nerve damage, then nerves will try to regrow and restore the lost nerves. There are treatments to help this, promoting nerve growth and making sure that they reconnect correctly. This doesn’t always work, and even if it does, the person may not recover fully.
Paralysis usually occurs because there’s damage to the spinal cord. The higher up the damage, the worse it is.
The reason why it’s not reversible is because the nervous system doesn’t have the same regeneration potential as other systems. For example, the liver has great regeneration potential.
Further research with stem cell technology (cells that can become anything) may help with repairing the damaged parts potentially reducing the paralysis or even curing it but it still has a long way to go
