It has been done but it’s very expensive and not currently economical.
Right now most of the non-animal meat on the market is plant based. It mimics the macronutrient profile and flavor of meat but it is not meat. There are also lab grown meats, some are now commercially available though not very widespread and rather expensive. They are made by growing animal muscle cells in a lab. It’s meat, just without slaughtering an animal and theoretically with far fewer emissions. But right now it only works for things like chicken nuggets. Growing a lab grown steak with all the texture and 3d structure is possible but far too expensive to compete against real meat for now.
