Why can’t we archive the Internet Archive?

Is there any other way to save it?

The problem is that the Hachette v. Internet Archive case decided that having an archive like IA wasn’t “fair use”. You can’t just copy and use other people’s intellectual property without their permission. If a company puts a book up on their web site in a limited time promotion then have in IA turn that into a “forever available” product just isn’t legal.

Who is “we”? If you own a smal town full of server storage you can do it alone.

Storage is expensive, and keeping it online even more, someone has to pay for that.

If you have some spare hard disks*, you can use the download scripts to download the entire archive, or the parts of it that you are interested in:

* Expect to fill a lot of hard disks…
