Why can’t we catapult rockets?

Well, I’ve always asked myself why can’t we use some kind of train or catapult to help the rockets to save fuel or to go further. Can anyone explain me why?

it’s difficult to justify building an entire other mechanism to launch the rocket when you can just make the fuel tank a bit bigger. compounded by the fact that rockets are actually remarkably efficient on their own.

Some rockets launch from flying planes to save fuel. But that saves you 10+ kilometers in altitude and gives you hundreds of miles per hour of speed. A train would give you zero altitude and maybe tens of miles per hour of speed which is useless at ground level because your rocket first needs to go up before it goes sideways, otherwise it will crash into stuff.
